Russia Announces Victory Day Ceasefire as Ukraine Warns of Symmetrical Retaliation
Attempts to introduce competing unilateral truces in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine have degenerated into accusations of aggression from both sides. President Zelensky of Ukraine accused Russia of openly defying its own initiative of ceasefire and targeting civilians with drones and missile attacks. The recent attack hit a kindergarten in the Sumy region of Ukraine. Even though Russia called for a temporary truce on May 8 and 9 for celebrating Victory Day, Ukraine decided to call for an indefinite truce on Tuesday, declaring that they will carry out symmetrical retaliation to any provocation from their end. While Russia threatens that a massive attack will be launched in Kyiv if its Victory Day truce is violated, Ukraine proves its ability to attack within Russia's borders.
